In 2018, the L’Orange brand was acquired by the American company Woodward Inc., a global leader in energy conversion and control solutions for aerospace and industrial applications.

With this acquisition, Woodward also gained L’Orange’s know-how in the production of Diesel injectors, and REDAT has taken on the challenge of keeping up with the technological innovations of the new manufacturer, without losing the performance of the former L’Orange injectors.

Our MTU L’Orange Woodward catalogue is constantly updated and can be consulted directly at the following link:

THE ORIGINS OF L’ORANGE WITH MTU

The L’Orange injector brand has historically been associated with MTU due to the close relationship between the two companies, which led to the widespread use of L’Orange components within injection systems for MTU diesel engines.

L’Orange supplied fuel injection technology for diesel engines produced by MTU Friedrichshafen (a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems), including marine applications, special vehicles, oil & gas, and power generation. It was acquired by MTU Friedrichshafen in 1995 and, following the sale, remained a key supplier to MTU through a long-term supply agreement for an initial period of 15 years.

Therefore, between the 1980s and the first two decades of the 2000s, the L’Orange brand remained closely linked to MTU, as it was both a subsidiary and a key supplier for MTU and Bergen Engines.

The sale of the L’Orange brand to Woodward, which took place almost 10 years ago, was carried out by Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which owned the brand.

THE SALE OF L’ORANGE FROM ROLLS-ROYCE TO WOODWARD INC.

In 2018, Rolls-Royce signed an agreement to sell L’Orange GmbH and its operations in Germany, the USA, and China to Woodward Inc. for an enterprise value of €700 million (approximately $859 million). The transaction was completed on June 1, 2018, after approval by the German antitrust authorities, with net proceeds of €673 million.

For Rolls-Royce, the sale strengthened its balance sheet, allowing the company to shift its focus toward high-growth opportunities without impacting the rest of the Power Systems group. For Woodward, it was a strategic move to acquire leading technology in the sector with a large installed base of products already in operation. Thanks to this acquisition, the American company expanded its presence in OEM supply with new industrial segments and new markets.

THE NEW ERA OF WOODWARD L’ORANGE AND BRAND PERFORMANCE

L’Orange, headquartered in Stuttgart and employing approximately 1,000 people, was therefore renamed Woodward L’Orange and integrated into Woodward’s Industrial segment. Today, Woodward L’Orange continues its innovation trend for large engines with outputs of thousands of kW, with a focus on reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

From 2018 to 2026, the evolution of Woodward L’Orange has expanded to include experimentation with alternative fuels from a sustainability perspective. With solid financial performance, the group has maintained key partnerships and continued to develop diesel technologies for large engines despite global challenges such as the pandemic and conflicts.

Following the acquisition in June 2018, L’Orange was integrated into the Industrial segment; in fiscal year 2020, Woodward reported net sales of $2.50 billion, supported also by the aftermarket portfolio and intellectual property related to fuel injection systems, such as patents, technologies, and know-how developed by L’Orange for high-pressure injectors in diesel engines.

Woodward recorded record sales in fiscal year 2024 and further growth in FY 2025. For 2026, updated forecasts indicate sales growth of +14–18%, while research and development activities continue from concept to prototype, focusing on low-emission technologies and improved fuel efficiency.

WOODWARD L’ORANGE, A BRAND THAT GUARANTEES PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY

In the large off-highway diesel engine segment, Woodward L’Orange injectors still represent a guarantee in terms of reliability, precision, and operational continuity. These components are designed to meet the most demanding requirements of OEM manufacturers, industrial operators, and aftermarket professionals such as REDAT.

With decades of leadership in injection technology, the current Woodward L’Orange brand develops and produces systems and components for most high-power diesel engines, with applications ranging from the marine sector to power generation, up to the most demanding off-highway machinery.

Thanks to extremely precise fuel metering control, Woodward L’Orange injectors contribute to:

improve combustion efficiency

reduce operating consumption

ensure consistent performance even under demanding conditions

support compliance with current and future emission regulations

TECHNOLOGICAL LEADERSHIP BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL SYSTEMS AND ADVANCED SOLUTIONS

One of the main strengths of Woodward L’Orange injectors is the ability to combine proven technologies with advanced innovation. The company continues to develop traditional systems such as pump-line-nozzle configurations, alongside next-generation solutions for diesel and heavy fuel injection.

This approach makes it possible to offer components compatible with a wide installed base of engines, while ensuring continuous technological updates, greater flexibility in retrofit operations, and optimized performance throughout the engine lifecycle. A further strategic advantage is the availability of spare parts on the market even for older models—thanks to aftermarket specialists such as REDAT—an essential factor for keeping plants and fleets operational over the long term.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF WOODWARD L’ORANGE INJECTORS

Woodward L’Orange quality is based on careful material selection and controlled manufacturing processes using advanced measurement technologies, as well as functional testing and endurance testing.

Choosing L’Orange injectors means being able to rely on:
